MISSION STATEMENT
The Charleston Civic Center shall serve to provide our citizens with
opportunities for entertainment, education and enlightenment through
events and activities hosted in the facilities; be utilized as a
valuable community resource to promote civic and charitable
activities; and encourage economic prosperity in the community
through the hosting of meetings, conventions and entertainment
events.
FIRE CODE: Candles or Open Flame Devices
Open flame devices shall be permitted to be used in the
following situations, provided that precautions satisfactory to the
authority having jurisdiction are taken to prevent ignition of any
combustible material or injury to occupants: Where candles on tables
are securely supported on substantial noncombustible bases and
candle flame is protected."
Client will provide the Civic Center with any intent of using open
flame devices 20 days prior to their event. These specifications
will be presented to the Charleston Fire Department and will be
judged on a case by case basis with the understanding that upon the
inspection of each set up, the determination will be made at that
time if its use meets the intent of life safety code.

SMOKE FREE
The Charleston Civic Center and Municipal Auditorium are Smoke Free
Facilities
PARKING
Parking is available on the surface lot located on Lee Street, the
parking garage with entrance off Quarrier Street and the parking
garage with entrance located off Lee Street.
LOADING ZONES
The main building loading zones are located off Lee Street at the
North and under the parking garage at the South Dock. Once loaded or
unloaded, your vehicle must be moved from the loading zone.
VEHICLE EXHIBITS
*Fuel tank openings shall be locked or sealed to prevent escape of
vapors
*Batteries must be disconnected. Auxiliary batteries not connected
to the engine starting system may be left connected.
*Vehicles on display can not contain more than a quarter tank of gas
*Drip pans/pads must be placed on the floor under the engine
FACILITY REQUIREMENTS
Exhibitors using heated oil or grease for cooking or any other
purposes must have a type “K” fire extinguisher present during the
demonstration. An example is “potassium bicarbonate” extinguisher
which can be obtained from any company selling and servicing fire
extinguishers.
No propane is allowed in the building.
All hazardous material brought into the Civic Center must be
accompanied by the applicable “Material Safety Data Sheet”. Any
materials left on premises will be disposed of at the expense of the
lessee.
All Charleston Civic Center equipment must remain in the building
unless prior authorization is given from a member of facility
management.
No storage of any kind is allowed in isle ways, near electrical
services or fire exits.
All materials used in exhibit constructions, decoration, or as
temporary cover must be certified as flame retardant or a sample
must be available for testing. Materials which cannot be treated to
meet requirements may not be used.
Clip-on halogen and/or quartz lamps used by exhibitors must be
reviewed with the Chief Building Engineer or the Engineering
Assistant.
All exhibit booth lighting must be turned off when show closes each
evening.
All tape and residue must be removed from the floors during
move-out.
It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to remove all pallets and other
display materials from the Civic Center during move-out. A $5.00 fee
per item will be charged if the Civic Center has to handle the
removal.
Food and snacks may not be brought into the Civic Center or
Municipal Auditorium. All food service is provided by Distinctive
Gourmet.
TELEPHONE & COMPUTER
Standard Telephone Service: A single telephone with a single
telephone number. You must dial a “9” to get an outside line. These
lines will not support a card reader or a dial-up modem.
Digital Telephone Service: Also single telephones with a
single telephone line but these are used for conference calls. Also,
these lines will not support a card reader or dial up modem.
Analog Telephone Service: Not necessary to dial “9” to get an
outside line. These are best used for a modem or a card reader.
Exhibitors must have there own modem and other necessary computer
equipment.
Internet Lines: Dedicated T-1 circuit provides dedicated
access to the internet with 1.5 mps. The Civic Center also provides
DHCP technology.
The Charleston Civic Center does not provide computers or computer
equipment.
HELPFUL HINTS
Civic Center Offices are located on the second floor of the
Civic Center across from the elevator.
Payphones are located in the main lobby, the Parlor hallway
and the second floor meeting area.
Lost and Found is located at the Box Office in the main
lobby.
Rest Room entrances are located at both North and South Hall
doors. Other rest rooms are located between West Hall 1 and West
Hall 2, in the Parlor Hallway and on the second floor in the meeting
room area.
